Requirements for Diesel Truck Owners

All owners of diesel trucks that operate in California are required to take steps to reduce air pollution. Reducing emissions from existing equipment is necessary to meet federally imposed clean air standards and to reduce the adverse health effects from pollution. Below we have summarized requirements and key dates for upgrading existing trucks.

Diesel trucks and buses with a GVWR more than 14,000 lbs. must reduce exhaust emissions by meeting particulate matter (PM) filter requirements and upgrading to 2010 model year or newer engines. The requirements are:

HEAVIER VEHICLES with a GVWR more than 26,000 lbs. need engine upgrades as shown in the schedule below (no reporting is required).LIGHTER VEHICLES with a GVWR 26,000 lbs. or less need to be upgraded to 2010 model year engines or to newer models as shown in the table. No retrofit PM filters or reporting is required.

This is a summary of the State Requirements. There are other provisions that can apply. Please contact any of our Commercial truck salesmen who know the law and can help you with understanding it. This is not something that is coming. It's in effect!!!!!! It's the law and if you are not in compliance you are subject to fines.

John Limoli (Commercial Truck sales) is seen here delivering the first of four new trucks to Patrick Blunt (Operations Manager) of Cool Planet Energy Systems. Cool Planet converts raw bio mass-wood chips, crop residues, and non food products such as algae-into gas streams. The gas streams are then added to conventional fuels. The process produces a residue that is used to sequester carbon, resulting in a reduced carbon fuel. In simple language the company converts ag waste into fuel.

The application of trucks John sold:
Terrastar - 14' Van with a moving floor that delivers Biomass.
Terrastar - 12" chipper van that transports burned mass.
Terrastar - 14' Utility Van for maintenance around the plant.
4300 Durastar - 1800 Gallon tank that transports refined product (char to bio mass) to the refinery.

We're happy to be part of this green effort.

In Operations Iraqi Freedom in Iraq and Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, RPG's, mines, IEDs, and small arms fire had been responsible for over 30 percent of Marine Corps level III and IV casualties. According to audiotapes released in November 2004, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi ordered his followers to "Block off all their main and secondary supply lines for these are their main arteries and ambush them along those routes for they are exposed and easy prey." The Corps was responding to the threat slowly because it took time for industry to build what was needed. Navistar created a vehicle based around one of their truck chassis. It was called the MaxxPro (MRAP).

The International® MaxxPro is Navistar Defence's Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle and incorporates the latest design in armoring technology. Extensively tested by the military and used in theater today, the MaxxPro features a V-shaped hull and other design features that greatly improve survivability. With so much protection, it's the vehicle that every crew want when they're out in the field.

Vehicle highlights

  • V-shaped hull to deflect the mines of IED blast away from the vehicle
  • Vehicle can be fitted with add-on armor
  • Protection against direct fire and RPG rounds
  • Vehicle is powered by an International MaxxForce D9.316 diesel engine
